SALISBURY Arts Centre is dishing up a double helping of The Metropolitan Opera live from New York next month.

Wagner’s Parsifal, a mystical opera about temptation and salvation, will be at the venue next week.

International star tenor Jonas Kaufmann performs the title role of Parsifal, with Katarina Dalayman as the time-travelling temptress Kundry who longs for redemption.

Peter Mattei plays the corrupted leader of the Grail Knights, Amfortas, and René Pape plays the wise old knight Gurnemanz.

Parsifal is conducted by Daniele Gatti, the music director of the French National Orchestra, and directed by acclaimed film and opera director Francois Girard.

A rare revival of Zandonai’s passionate drama Francesca Da Rimini, which is based on an episode from Dante’s Inferno, will follow later in the month.

Piero Faggioni’s lavish and critically acclaimed production is set in Renaissance Italy and captures both the lyrical beauty and brutality of Zandonai’s opera.

Eva Maria-Westbroek sings the title role in the first Met revival of Zandonai’s romantic masterpiece in more than 25 years, with Marcello Giordani as her lover Paulo.

Francesca Da Rimini is the penultimate event in The Metropolitan Opera’s 12/13 Live in HD series.

Parsifal will be shown on Saturday, March 2 and Francesca Da Rimini on Saturday, March 16.

Tickets for each are £15, £13 for concessions, and are available from Salisbury Arts Centre Box Office on 01722 321744 or at salisburyartscentre.co.uk.
