SALISBURY Cathedral’s prestigious Organ Recital Series 2013 features musicians from far and wide in a programme of concerts running from April to October.

The season opens on April 17 with Cédric Bergulin, organist titulaire of the cathedral in Salisbury’s twin town, Saintes.

The concert begins with music by Mozart and continues with an atmospheric evocation of the French countryside by Ermend Bonnal, including the exciting Cloches dans le ciel.

The concert concludes with Cédric’s own transcription of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

The Jenkinson Recital on May 8 is the annual opportunity to hear the cathedral’s organ scholar, this year Joshua Hales, in concert while The Alcock Recital on June 19 is performed by Martin Setchell, a concert organist of international renown and curator of the organ in Christchurch Town Hall, New Zealand.

The concerts are held once a month on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm and feature the cathedral’s renowned Father Willis organ.

John Challenger, assistant director of music, said: “Having played the cathedral’s great Father Willis organ for several months now, I am in no doubt that we possess one of the country’s very finest cathedral organs here at Salisbury.”

Tickets for each recital are £8 and are available online from salisburycathedral.org.uk, from Salisbury Playhouse box office on 01722 320333, and at the door.
