New Sarum Singers summer concert
THE New Sarum Singers evoked sunshine and summer holidays with their recent concert.
A Summer Journey, performed last month at Bemerton Methodist Church, celebrated the group’s 50th anniversary.
Under musical director Ruth Booth and accompanied on piano by Gemma Coles, the group covered a range of rousing summer songs from Andrew Carter’s arrangement of the John Glover classic I do Like to be Beside the Seaside to Teddy Bears’ Picnic and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Climb Ev’ry Mountain.
Local singing group Close Harmony gave a special guest appearance, showing off their a-cappella singing with some traditional songs, before joining the New Sarum Singers to finish with a traditional Irish song, Irish Blessing.
During the interval, the audience could view some of the programmes from the group’s 50-year history.
The New Sarum Singers’ next performance will be a Christmas concert at Bemerton Methodist Church on December 7 at 7.30pm.
