Merry Wives of Windsor comes to Salisbury and Tisbury
THE Merry Wives of Windsor is coming to Salisbury and Tisbury later this month.
Shakespeare’s comedy is being performed by theatre company Creative Cow.
The performances take place from September 24 to 27 at Fisherton Mill, with tickets to include a threecourse gourmet supper, and on September 29 at Ashley Wood Farm in Tisbury.
Sir John Falstaff, a Knight of the Garter, plans to seduce two of Windsor’s wealthy merry wives to prove his virility and give him access to their money.
But Falstaff is tricked by the women, including being hidden in a laundry basket full of dirty washing and thrown into the Thames.
He is further duped and terrified in the eerie moonlit shadows of a blasted oak in Windsor Great Park, and he is lured by a band of ruthless townsfolk seeking to revel in his misery.
Meanwhile, the daughter of one of the merry wives has to employ her own brand of trickery to attain true love.
Katherine Senior, actor and founder member of Creative Cow, said: “When we toured another great farce, Charley’s Aunt, earlier in the year, it became clear how much our audiences in Salisbury enjoyed revisiting a great and, perhaps sadly, less often performed comedy.
