Angel and wretch in place for art trail
A THREE-and-a-half tonne stone sculpture has been moved into place ready for Salisbury Art Trail next month.
Sculptor Henry Gray had The Angel and Wretch moved from Project Workshops in Quarley, Hampshire, to Stratford-sub- Castle at the end of last month. The sculpture was hand-carved from a single block of Portland stone over a seven-year period and was completed in 2007.
Gray says it poses the question “What is the relationship between the two figures?”
with one appearing divine, the other wretched. “It amazes me how it changes, dependent on the light, my mood and even who is with me when I view it,” he said.
The piece was brought to Wiltshire by Jimmy McKenzie, who specialises in moving sculptures.
The Angel and Wretch will be on display at Five in a Barn, in Parsonage Close, Stratford-sub-Castle, during the art trail from October 5 to 13.
