Sell-out show for Prunella
FAWLTY Towers actor Prunella Scales played to a full house when she returned Salisbury Playhouse for a sold-out show on September 23.
Scales, best known for her role as Sybil Fawlty, joined poet Leo Aylen to perform An Assortment of Sybils, a show that asks if men and women really are from Mars and Venus.
With poems, humour and anecdotes the pair looked at how the sexes communicate and women’s roles as muses, and even covered some Greek classics including Medea and the Odyssey.
Scales has a long-standing connection with the Playhouse and is a patron of the theatre’s fundraising campaign.
This show, which had a waiting list for tickets, was one of only three performances in the country. The pair also performed at Frome Festival and will be at Bristol Literature Festival.
Director Pauline Lisowska said: “The audience got to see Pru in a different light. There was a lot of comedy and light-heartedness, and the audience joined in with some singing. It was absolutely fantastic.”
