WACKY costumes, cheesy oneliners and that special kind of pantomime acting make the Mayflower’s swashbuckling festive show a Christmas cracker.

Normally when it comes to the festive pantomime season I’m a Scrooge, but this year – among hordes of other people who appeared to be bouncing off the show’s energy – I loved it.

You can always rely on the much-loved Brian Conley to have you in hysterics and he didn’t disappoint as Robinson Crusoe.

His infamous line of “it’s a puppet” and non-stop jokes kept the audience entertained during his journey to huntdown some buried treasure.

As expected there were plenty of twists and turns en route, including an epic battle with a sea monster.

Gavin Woods gave a strong performance as baddy Blackheart the Pirate, and pantomime goddess Lesley Joseph was also popular as The Enchantress.

Incredible special effects including a flying car and giant monster made sure this production was up to date and there are plenty of great songs, dancing and entertainment to keep the whole family amused.

Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates runs until January 12.
