YOUNG musicians are getting ready to perform with a leading international violinist at Salisbury Cathedral on March 7.

Violinist Tasmin Little is performing along with Salisbury Youth Orchestra, and students from Godolphin, St Edmund’s, Leaden Hall and Salisbury Cathedral schools.

Directed by Richard Parsons, the concert will be raising money for The English Speaking Union (ESU), Kids Company, which provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable children, and the Salisbury Cathedral Choral Foundation.

It is also part of Godolphin School’s Inspiring People series.

The concert will include music from composers Vivaldi, Bach, Vaughan Williams, Highcock and Shostakovich.

Valerie Mitchell, who was director general of ESU for 15 years, is chairman of the concert’s organising committee.

She said: “The aim of the ESU is to promote friendship and understanding through the use of the English language and education programmes.

“Music is a language of international understanding and because of that we’ve now found ourselves supporting a lot of music programmes through scholarships.”

Little received two scholarships from the ESU to help boost her career, which has seen her perform all over the world.

Mrs Mitchell said: “I remember her first audition when she was 17.

She was like a breath of fresh air.

“The young people can’t believe she’s coming to performwith them.

I think it will be wonderful.”

Tickets including a pre-concert reception, refreshments and the best seats cost £40, or there are concert- only tickets priced between £25 and £10.
