A FORMER chorister from Winchester Cathedral and a former Quirister from Winchester College, now both Oxbridge Choral Scholars, have formed an a cappella group of singers to give the area’s best young singers the opportunity to sing together in the holidays.

Sansara consists entirely of ex-choristers of Salisbury and Winchester cathedrals (male and female), Quiristers of Winchester College and Oxbridge Choral Scholars.

Sansara is from the Sanskrit meaning “continuous flow”.

In accordance with this principle the group has no one conductor. Instead, several singers from the choir are given the opportunity to conduct. This provides both the choir and the audience with varying perspectives on the music and gives aspiring conductors the chance to work with a choir of this calibre.

Stockbridge Music has invited Sansara to perform at St Peter’s Church, Stockbridge, on Saturday, March 29 as an extra concert in their series for this year.

They will perform a programme of music by English composers from the 16th century to the modern day. And as 2014 is the centenary of the start of the First World War, they will also perform rarely heard songs from Sir Hubert Parry’s Songs of Farewell.

Tickets are available from The Lights Theatre in Andover on 01264 368368 or from Robinson’s butchers in Stockbridge.
