SWAN Lake opens at the Mayflower in Southampton on Tuesday.

Matthew Bourne's powerful, provocative and original interpretation of Swan Lake turned tradition upside down and took the dance world by storm, dazzling audiences in the West End and Broadway, and across Europe, Asia and Australia.

Boldly shattering the traditional concept of swans in tutus, Matthew Bourne has created a passionate and contemporary Swan Lake for our times.

Since its London premiere, the production has been acclaimed as a landmark achievement on the international stage, collecting more than 30 international theatre awards, including three Tonys, and was famously immortalised in the film Billy Elliot.

Swan Lake has gone through many different interpretations since its creation by Tchaikovsky.

Matthew Bourne’s production retains two of the essentials that make the ballet so universally loved - Tchaikovsky’s great score and the story of our constant yearning for an unattainable ideal.

It will be at the Mayflower from Tuesday, March 25 to Saturday, March 29.
