THE New Sarum Singers were joined by members of the Winterslow Singers to perform Our Saviour, a cantata for choir and congregation recounting the life of Jesus Christ written and composed by local organist Harry Brockway.

The combined choirs accompanied on the organ by the composer, together with guest conductor Gary Turner, soloists Katy Turner and Lorraine Blakey (sopranos) and Robert Blakey (bass), delivered a truly memorable rendition of this joyous work.

Blakey’s performance was sublime and moving, and the combined voices of Turner and Blakey were beautifully balanced as they sang the duet in The Beatitudes section.

The emotional impact of the story was enhanced by three hymns in which the congregation fully participated. In places Revd Rosemary Richter gave a short narrative relating to the events depicted in the work, which added to the drama of the story.

The choir of more than 60 voices filled the church with a gloriously rousing finale, The Resurrection, bringing the concert to a close.

Thanks to the generosity of the congregation, more than £400 was raised for the charity Living Water Africa.

Future concerts planned by The New Sarum Singers are the summer concert on Saturday, July 19 at 7.30pm and the Christmas concert on Saturday, December 6 at 7.30pm.
