SHAKESPEARE’S The Taming of the Shrew will be performed in Salisbury Cathedral grounds at the weekend, and people are being invited to come along and watch free of charge.
Foot in the Door Theatre is coming to the city as part of its tour of the play to celebrate Shakespeare’s 450th birthday.
The company invites people to enjoy the rustic charm of traditional open air theatre in beautiful surroundings.
They can bring their picnics blankets and food and advised to “frame your mind to mirth and merriment”.
The Taming of the Shrew features beautiful Bianca, who has no shortage of admirers but is is unable to marry until her eldest sister Kate finds herself a husband.
Enter the fortune-hungry Petruchio who is determined “to wive it wealthily in Padua”
and sets out to capture the heart of the fiery-spirited Kate.
A host of male suitors strive and compete for Bianca’s affection, while Kate and Petruchio clash and face off in a crackling battle of wits.
Foot in the Door Theatre was founded in 2007, and has performed with St Albans Festival for three consecutive years, as well as popular productions in various theatres.
