VARIETY is the spice of life, so they say.

And The Hiss & Boo Show definitely offered something unlike anything I’ve experienced before.

The show promised good, clean family fun and entertainment for all, but I’m not sure that’s quite what you get.

With a banjo player, a comedian, a tap dancing duo, a singer, a pianist and a master of ceremonies, there is certainly a lot of variety on offer, but I think the show would be largely lost on anyone under the age of 60.

I had imagined something a bit like panto – a bit of silly fun for the kids with some cheesy jokes that would go over their heads for adults, but as far as we could see, my friend and I were two of only four audience members under the age of 50 - and there was not a child in sight.

The audience participation consisted mainly of joining in with old-fashioned songs, none of which we knew the words to.

A highlight was Punch and Him, the tap-dancing duo of Jessica Punch and Graeme Henderson.

Comedian Bernie Clifton had his moments and the banjo player was good, but again I felt we were a good 40 years too young to really appreciate his act.

The rest of the audience seemed to love it, so I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

But if you weren’t born in the 1960s, this probably isn’t the show for you.
