SALISBURY Arts Festival managed to pull off a small coup with the final night of Madeleine Peyroux’s European tour.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter performed, accompanied by Jon Herington on electric guitar and Barak Mori on double bass, and the evening had an intimate feel to it.

She treated the audience to lots of songs from previous albums including Between the Bars, Dance Me to the End of Love and I’m Alright, as well as a few from her latest album The Blue Room.

A particular highlight was Keep Me In Your Heart For A While.

There were country ballads, blues, pop, a tango, French and Brazilian lyrics, all sung in her inimitable jazz style. There were superb solos in I Hear Music from Herington and Mori, and Peyroux joked with the audience in between songs.

She kept everyone enthralled to the point that you could hear a pin drop when there was a break in the music. What a wonderful night.
