SAINTS football legends Matt Le Tissier and Francis Benali will feature in a production at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton next week.

The Saints will feature the former Southampton Football Club players as themselves in cameo roles in pre-recorded film segments.

It is a play about the highs and lows of following Southampton Football Club and the pivotal role of football within cities across the country.

The Nuffield’s latest commission, directed by Matthew Dunster and written by Luke Barnes, will also feature Scarlett Alice Johnson, Cary Crankson, Claire-Louise Cordwell, Harry Hepple, Tendayi Jembere, Carl Prekopp, Matthew Raymond and Will Stokes.

The play, which is part of the Nuffield’s Art at the Heart festival, is taking place at Playing Field, a specially built pop-up theatre in Southampton, which combines outdoor stadium with Jacobean theatre.

The production explores the theatrical experience of attending a football match, from the sense of spectacle and power of crowd behaviour and the sense of belonging and community it creates.

The theatre is running crowdfunding campaign alongside the production, called Be a Saint.

Audience members can donate amounts from £5 to £500 and will receive rewards including having a drink with Le Tissier and Benali during the festival, and football and theatre memorabilia.
