AN innovative and inventive version of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, performed by just two actors, is coming to the Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse.
This highly praised, sparkling and fresh stage adaptation by Joannah Tincey sees Tincey joined on stage by Nicholas Underwood as they journey from the Meryton Assembly to the grounds of Pemberley; and take Darcy and Lizzy from instant dislike to something altogether more different, all in just two hours.
Every word that is spoken in the production is Austen’s.
The show premiered at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds in 2013, celebrating 200 years since the classic novel was published, and offers a new interpretation of this popular love story.
Tincey said: “I wanted to create an adaptation where the characters talk to the audience in the same way that Austen talks to her reader.
“By addressing the audience directly and allowing the characters to speak for themselves, we are bringing Jane Austen’s unique and witty writing style to life in a truly theatrical context.”
Pride and Prejudice is directed by Abigail Anderson with design by Dora Schweitzer, lighting design by Simon Wilkinson and sound design by Mark Melville.
It is produced by Richard Darbourne Ltd, whose recent productions include the 2014 UK Tour of Avenue Q and Barbershopera’s The Three Musketeers.
