OPERA at Chilmark is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, with performances of Handel’s pastoral opera Acis and Galatea over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

During its 10 year history, the company has performed operas from the seventeenth to the twenty-first century in a barn at Cleeves Farm, Chilmark.

Young professionals take the solo roles and they are supported by the company’s own chorus and orchestra.

This year the soloists will be Eloise Irving, heard recently in Salisbury with the Farrant Singers, Hugo Hymas, heard with the Bishop’s Consort at Farley and Milton Abbey, Michael Solomon Williams, who will also be singing with Salisbury Baroque in September, and Ned Pattenden, who has sung several solo roles with Opera at Chilmark.

Acis and Galatea has been described as ‘the perfect entertainment for a summer’s evening’; as usual there will be a long picnic interval to add to the atmosphere and enjoyment.

Performances are at 5pm on August 24 and 25; further details and tickets (£22.50, under-16s free) are available from David Davies on 01722 714440.
