THE latest production of the hit show CATS opened at the Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth, with an almost full house and an atmosphere of excited anticipation that positively shimmered in the air.
The curtain opened to an imaginative junkyard setting on a huge scale.
Tonight the tribe of Jellicle cats reunites to celebrate their various feline attributes.
Victoria, the young white cat (Hannah Kenna Thomas) dances to signal The Invitation to the Jellicle Ball and her performance was truly amazing. It was difficult to believe that a human could achieve such a level of feline grace and agility.
Magical Mr Mistoffilees (Joseph Poulton) conjured up a wonderful performance too, and these two dancers seemed to be positively airborne.
The whole cast received a very well-deserved standing ovation.
Andrew Lloyd Webber describes this new production as the Second Life of Cats. His excitement is justified. If you are a lover of cats, of music and dance, of theatre – don’t miss it.
