UKULELE classes are returning to Salisbury next month.

The popularity of the instrument has recently swept the nation and the Salisbury Ukulele Band is welcoming players of all abilities to the weekly sessions.

The instrument is easy to learn, requires no reading of music, and it is fun to play in a group.

Ukuleles and sessions are also affordable and instruments are provided for people to have a go. Anyone who has played a guitar will find the ukulele easy but even if you have not, it can be picked up quickly.

The band has players from the age of eight to 80 and of all abilities - the main aim is to have fun playing together.

The Salisbury Ukulele Band was started earlier this year by Robin Walter and has had great success busking in the town centre and at Salisbury Art Centre’s Homegrown festival.

The weekly sessions, on a Monday, are divided into beginners and intermediate, in the first hour, from 2pm, the classes run through the basics, showing chord positions, practising changes and singing easy songs. Then in the second hour, from 3pm, intermediate level players learn more complex songs and arrangements.

Sessions start again on September 1 and run every week in school term times.
