PEOPLE interested in Rome and art history can enjoy a new series of lectures starting in Salisbury.

Art historian Hendrika Foster is returning to Salisbury after an eleven-year break to run a five-week course on Rome at Salisbury Arts Centre.

The course starts on October 14 with architecture and sculpture from the beginning of the Roman Empire and continues until the 18th century period of the Grand Tour.

By the end of the course you should be able to plan your own itinerary for a week in Rome.

Foster lectured at the former St Edmund’s Church, which is now Salisbury Arts Centre, as part of the University of Bristol’s Continuing Education programme until the centre closed for refurbishment in 2003.

After the rebuild the university discontinued the lectures due to government funding cuts but Foster continued to work on a freelance basis.

She has planned and tutored 40 foreign study tours to Italy, Sicily, Holland and Belgium, as well as running courses and lectures in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.

A similar course on Florence could run in the spring next year and possibly Venice in the autumn.

The Rome course is every Tuesday from 10.30am to 1pm from October 14 to November 11 and costs £85.
