SINGING IN THE RAIN
The Mayflower, Southampton
THE theme for the original 1952 film Singing in the Rain was the transition from the silent movies to the talkies in the 1920s, and was described as just about the best Hollywood musical of all time.
An exciting stage set at the Mayflower Theatre and wonderful costumes portrayed the flapper era of the period perfectly. Real rain poured down copiously for the title song.
James Leece gave a charismatic performance as Don Lockwood, and Amy Ellen Richardson’s lovely voice portrayed Kathy Selden perfectly.
The well-loved songs of the show included You Are My Lucky Star, You Were Meant for Me, Make ‘em Laugh and You Stepped Out of a Dream. Dancing that captured the magic of the moment had the audience loving every minute of it, and the cast were treated to a loud cheer at the end of the performance.
