A THRILLING modern drama exploring the fragility of youth is coming to Salisbury Playhouse next week.

Honest, presented by Theatre6, is coming to Salisbury following a run at The Courtyard Theatre in London. The show is written by Bristol-based Alice Nicholas and directed by Kate McGregor, who did her trainee directorship at the Playhouse.

The story, described as bold and relevant with sharp dialogue, follows the story of three young people who meet at a cemetery in Bristol one night. While they are there it becomes clear there is a secret between the two girls in the group.

“It’s about relationships, it’s about adolescents, and growing up, trying to become an adult and accept the things you’ve done,” said McGregor. “It is violent in parts and very touching.”

The cast of three young people, Emma Ballantine (Bel), Layton Daws (Coogan) and Sophie Knight (Maisie), have been rehearsing with McGregor in Marylebone. They recently worked with a fight director to get the violent scenes right.

For two of the actors it is their first professional production.

“This is what we were really excited about,” said McGregor. “The cast are close in age to the actors and it was really important we got that right.”

She added: “I worked with a lot of youth theatre companies, and Stage 65 when I was in Salisbury, so it is both sides of my career coming together.”

McGregor first saw a shorter version of Honest at the Alma Tavern Theatre in Bristol in 2012, produced by Theatre West.

It has now been turned into a two-act play.

The play is suitable for those aged 13 and over.

Honest is in The Salberg for three nights from October 2. For tickets, call 01722 320333 or visit salisburyplayhouse.com.
