AN award-winning British-African family drama is now on at the Hub Theatre in Southampton as part of Black History Month.
Pandora’s Box, which has had sell-out shows at the Arcola Theatre in London, was nominated for Best New Play for the Off West End Theatre Awards, and is billed as an “exuberant and thought-provoking mix of comedy, tragedy and family drama”.
Set in Lagos, the play centres around a family reunion of three generations meeting for the first time in more than 30 years and reveals the heartbreak behind the difficult choices some parents must make – and the price their children pay.
Author Ade Solanke was nominated for this year’s Nigeria Prize for Literature, Africa's biggest literary award.
Directed by Shade Oladit and co-produced by Jon Harris, it is funded by Arts Council England with additional funding from the Unity Theatre Trust.
Tickets for Pandora’s Box which is on from today until Saturday are on sale from Out & About on 02380 711818 or online at OutAbout.co.uk. Evening performances are at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinée at 2.30pm.
Ticket prices are £14 with concessions, £12, and £8 for education groups of more than eight people.
