JULIAN Velard, the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter returns to Salisbury tomorrow for a show at Salisbury and South Wilts Sports Club.
The gig, the first of three shows in the UK, promises an “engaging style of theatrical, piano-based pop”, which has been hailed by The Sunday Times as “catchy but complicated, a surprisingly rare combination.”
Velard turns the piano-pop tunesmith stereotype on its ear with a biting, 21st century wit in a stylish package – think Harry Connick Jr with the panache of a Brooklyn hipster – recalling Stephen Sondheim or Randy Newman at the peak of their talents. Velard returns to Salisbury following a high profile show at the Paradiso Hall in Amsterdam before returning to the states after a weekend of shows in London. Velard will be joined by Dorchester-based Andy Grant, one of the south coast’s leading soul/blues guitarists.
Doors open at 7pm.
Tickets are £13 from 01722 327108 or £15 on the door.
