MATT PARKER
Salisbury Arts Centre
ALL-ROUND maths whiz Matt Parker used his extensive knowledge of maths, blended with his quick-witted nature, to stun the audience with a range of jaw-dropping demonstrations.
In what is a remarkably hilarious and educational show, the Australian-born pulls off some impressive experiments in Now in 4D.
Among interesting slideshows, graphs and one-liners in the first part, the highlight for me was seeing how effective his personalised, domino-built computer was, which had two lines running simultaneously – a meticulously thought-out process.
And the second had a 4D theme, using objects to convey the mystery behind maths in another light, keeping the audience on their toes.
Stand-up maths is something I’ve never seen before and was interested to know how it would come together.
But a colleague and I, who were outnumbered by hosts of maths teachers in Salisbury Arts Centre, were blown away by lots of mind-boggling maths.
My friend was so intrigued by many of Parker’s methods, he bought his book, Things to Make And Do in the Fourth Dimension.
Parker was last in Salisbury 18 months ago, and when he returns for another stint, I’d like to see him again.
