SALISBURY Playhouse is presenting a series of special one-night events in the Main House this January.

Odyssey of Love – Liszt and His Women is tomorrow at 7.30.

It will bring together the music and words of the child prodigy composer Frank Liszt. The composer was a known Lothario and his music was shaped by two women in his life, Marie d’Agoult and Princess Carolyne Wittgenstein.

The night will consist of musical performances by pianist Lucy Parham alongside readings of his letters by actors Martin Jarvis and Joanna David.

This Saturday at 7.30pm will see longstanding BBC Radio 4 host Nicholas Parsons take to the stage. The 65-year-old, best known for Just a Minute and Sale of the Century, promised a great evening packed with showbiz stories and anecdotes from his career.

Is There A Doctor In The House? on Sunday at 6.30pm will raise money for Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal and Salisbury Playhouse’s 40th Anniversary Campaign.

The events includes performances by local medical professionals and actors, The Farrant Singers, comedy musical cabaret group Instant Sunshine, media doctor Rob Hicks, musician Kate Edgar and Stage ’65 youth theatre. On Friday, January 23 at 7.30pm, former Leader of the Liberal Democrats Lord Paddy Ashdown presents The Cruel Victory.

Lord Ashdown will be telling the D-Day story of the resistance uprising and subsequent massacre on the Vercors massif.
