A SPECIAL concert recreating the classic Big Band sounds of the 1940s and 50s will be at Wimborne’s Tivoli Theatre on February 7.

Special guest vocalists Georgina Jackson and Sam Merrick will join the Nick Ross Orchestra for a spectacular concert, with a full line-up of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section.

They will faithfully recreate the wonderful sounds of such big bands as those led by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey and Syd Lawrence.

Featuring such numbers as Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood, A String of Pearls, Little Brown Jug and American Patrol memories of wartime and the Blitz will no doubt be brought flooding back to life.

The Nick Ross Orchestra uses arrangements exactly as recorded in the Great Swing Era of the 40s and 50s, coupled with outstanding instrumental and vocal performances.

Georgina Jackson’s long awaited second album Watch What Happens, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios, was released in June 2012.

The first single, Change Partners, shot to number 1 in the iTunes Jazz Chart and the album fought the likes of Nina Simone and Miles Davies to get into the top 5.

The London Evening Standard awarded Watch What Happens the CD of the week in July 2012. Jazz Fm and Radio 2 have supported Georgina's CD and in 2013 it was released in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Georgina has performed on Radio 2 on several occasions.

Dorset lad Sam Merrick has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and around the London Jazz Circuit at venues such as The Vortex Jazz Club.

He recently completed his training at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.

Tickets are £19.50/£18 concessions. Call 01202 885566 or go to tivoliwimborne.co.uk to book.
