THE SOUND OF MUSIC
The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton
THE Sound of Music is the third highest grossing film of all time – inflation adjusted – and all the audience will have heard the stunning voice of Julie Andrews against the backdrop of Austrian countryside.
It means that the stage version has a lot to live up to but the Mayflower rarely disappoints and this production is of the highest calibre.
Led by the splendid Danielle Hope as Maria – who lived up to her credentials as the winner of the BBC talent show Over the Rainbow – this will have you humming the classic tunes for days to come.
Once again at the Mayflower I was impressed by the set, which swiftly changes from an Austrian nunnery to the stunning staircase of the elaborate von Trapp family home.
And, when moulded together with the adorable von Trapp children it simply ticks all the boxes.
This production was faultless and is a must-see.
It runs until Saturday.
