SALISBURY Playhouse will be part of a three-year project telling Black British stories on the stage.

The theatre will host one of the country’s most talented Black writers, produce new work inspired by Black British stories and be part of a year-long festival created by artists across the country.

The project, Revolution Mix, has been devised by Eclipse Theatre Company – one of Britain’s most highly regarded Black-led touring theatre companies. They hope the scheme will lead to more opportunities for Black people on stage and behind the scenes, and tell the stories of Black people living in Britain.

Sixteen writers whose credits include television dramas, soap operas, plays and films have been selected to be part of the scheme. They will work with theatres across the country, including Salisbury Playhouse, to produce a series of new plays, theatre tours, films and short dramas for radio.

“Eclipse Theatre launched Revolution Mix to enrich the canon of British theatre with the missing Black British story,” said artistic director of Eclipse Theatre Company, Dawn Walton.

“Our starting point was to identify the underutilised Black writing talent that already exists across our regions and we were inundated with quality applications. With the talent and drive of our wonderful group of writers and the knowledge and experience of our partner theatres, Revolution Mix has an excellent foundation to develop, build and present this unique body of work.”
