THE acting duo behind Elizabeth I – Virgin on the ridiculous and The Six Wives of Henry VIII, are appearing in Salisbury this week with a play on Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler.

Howard Coggins and Stu Mcloughlin whose company is Living Spit say they like to think they are reverent towards history but irreverent towards the people.

Howard said: “Our company started because I look like Henry VIII – we did the six wives with me being Henry and my colleague Stu playing all the wives.

“We did wonder what we could do next... it’s based on people I look like and when I shave I look a bit like Winston Churchill so we thought let’s do that – the Second World War so I play Winston and Stu plays Adolf.”

The musical comedy show starts when Churchill became prime minister in 1940.

“All our shows are for adults. This type of comedy is slightly more challenging – there are some jokes in it that people laugh at and feel they ought not to.”

Both actors have appeared recently at Salisbury Playhouse independently with Stu in London Calling and Howard in last year’s pantomime Mother Goose.

Adolf & Winston is at The Salberg, Salisbury Playhouse until September 26. More details at salisburyplayhouse.com or call 01722 320333.
