A SHORT play written by Salisbury author Jayne Woodhouse has been selected by Time Zone Theatre Company as part of its new writing event — State of Fear. Responsibility to...? and will be performed in London.

Playwrights were invited to write about the current political climate in the UK, by addressing some of the prevalent issues and concerns in our society.

Jayne’s play The Watchers is set in a dystopian near-future and considers the motives which drive a young woman towards radical extremism.

It was selected from more than 200 submissions and will be performed at Southwark Playhouse in London on October 18.

Jayne said: "I am delighted that my play has been chosen by Time Zone for this event. It’s a real privilege to be involved in theatre which challenges our views on topical issues that concern us all. I’m sure that the evening will raise important questions and spark debate."

Jayne has written a number of of fiction and non-fiction books for both children and adults, and says she has only recently started writing for the theatre. This is the first play she has had accepted for performance.

She also teaches creative writing in and around the Salisbury area.
