THE Advent Procession, From Darkness to Light, is taking place this weekend at Salisbury Cathedral.
One of the most popular services of the cathedral’s year, it begins with the cathedral in total darkness and silence before the Advent candle is lit.
The service is a mix of music and readings during which two processions move around the different spaces in the building which is, by the end, illuminated by almost 1,300 candles.
The first service was last night, with another this evening (Saturday) at 7pm (doors open 6pm, to be seated by 6.40pm), and one tomorrow (Sunday) at 5pm (doors open 4pm, to be seated by 4.40pm).
Admission is free.
Those who wish to arrive early can enjoy seasonal refreshments of mulled wine and mince pies which will be available under cover in the cloisters on all evenings.
