THE cast of Cinderella will be casting their spell over Salisbury – but watch out for the ugly sisters who will be whirling onto the stage like a hurricane.

The Journal caught up with Andrew Ashford (Miley) and Michael Cahill (Kylie) who play the dastardly pair, Miley and Kylie.

Michael says: “The difference about the ugly sisters is it is against many of the other dames who are singular characters. There are two of them and of course they are not a pleasant pair which is against what normally happens where the dames are warm, cuddly, inviting and all-encompassing. We are out to bag a prince – so we’re not very pleasant. We represent the ugly side of what happens out there in the real world in a funny way.”

Andrew adds: “We are very self obsessed and have very over inflated egos.

"We think we are the sexist, loveliest and grooviest in our own eyes.”

The sisters are led by their mother the Baroness and will be on a mission to “bag themselves a prince”.

Cinderella is Andrew's first pantomime. He admits: “It is unlike anything I have ever done.

"Obviously the comedy is there and I have done comedy stuff before.

“It is about being able to put your own individual stamp on and I think the design does that really well.”

Michael adds: “Panto is a different type of animal – you never know what it is going to be until you get there in front of an audience."

The pair will have some rather outrageous outfits for audiences to feast their eyes on as Andrew explains: “They will be a sight to behold, is the best way to describe it.”

Speaking about the inspiration for his character Andrew explains: “The only one I can slightly think of is Kathy Burke in Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, that sort of a woman who has such a huge ego - I am the best, I’m perfect, I am adorable - when she is the complete opposite of it.”

Summing up Miley and Kylie, Michael explains: “They are essentially the same being with two different faces and that is where being able to play them is so much fun.

“You wouldn’t want to know them or have them on your Christmas list.

"They barge into your party without any invite and will be quite hard to remove.

"We’re like a bad smell – we hang around for a long time. And watch out for your boyfriend or your husband, we don’t care whether they have got a ring on their finger or not. Don’t leave your man wandering, especially around the foyer.

“We are like a hurricane – we whirl in.”

Describing what audiences can expect the pair said: “Good songs, great voices, a fantastic set and costumes. A traditional story well told with a lot of laughs.”
