SALISBURY Arts Centre will launch its spring season on Monday which will include its usual diverse mixture of music, comedy and dance.

Kicking off the season following the food-filled festive period will be Dutch 8-piece, Broken Brass Ensemble, who perform on Friday, January 22. The Ensemble combine an energetic fusion of brass, hiphop, funk and fanfare.

Amongst the comedians will be old favourites Mark Watson and Tom Stade who both return to Salisbury following popular shows at the arts centre.

These are alongside new acts Robert Newman and Andrew Lawrence who perform on February 5 and March 4 respectively.

The Arts Centre will also be taking part in Theatre Fest West which runs from the end of March.

As part of the festival a performance will look back at the Battle of Beanfield by blending documentary footage with new writing.

Salisbury Journal:

The Battle of Beanfield as it was dubbed took place in 1985 as police attempted to stop druids from setting-up the Stoneghenge Free Festival

If dance is more to your taste, Neon Dance’s Empathy explores the human spectrum through movement, sound and set. Five dancers fold, lift and balance against one another as they navigate through an entangled web of behaviour.

Serving up a unique theatrical experience as part of Theatre Fest West is Scratchworks Theatre Company. Nel brings films to life through sound. In her world a tyre screech is a hot water bottle and an epic fight scene is a symphony of snapping celery.

This mix of Foley artistry, live music and dynamic movement examines identity, friendship and what it means to be an introvert.

As ever, Salisbury Arts Centre is offering a rich selection of films, from the story of Amy Winehouse in her own words featuring previously unseen archive footage, to a film double bill highlighting the role played to improve women’s rights by the suffrage movement just a century ago.

The Box Office line, 01722 321744, will be open until Saturday 19 December and again from Tuesday 5 January while the building is closed to the public.
