ADAPTATIONS of popular stories and visits from renowned theatre companies feature in the spring/summer season at Salisbury Playhouse – offering up plenty to keep families entertained.

February half term starts on Monday, February 15 with Oliver Twist, the story of the little boy who asked for more.

Presented in the style of Victorian music hall, Red Earth’s production of Charles Dickens’s masterpiece is packed full of surprises and brings Oliver’s story to life for children and grown-ups alike.

This production includes integrated Sign Language and Captions and is suitable for those aged 8 plus and their families.

Fairytale favourite Rumpelstiltskin spins into The Salberg on Tuesday February 16, in a production full of puppetry, music and storytelling - creating a woolly wonderland of a show for 3 to 8 year olds.

Families can also enjoy Windibops — a new dance piece for families and children aged four and above.

The audience is invited into the Windibops laboratory on Wednesday 17 to investigate flatulence and whether it has an impact on global warming. This comical, fun world combines dance, humour, strange sounds, smells and amusing characters to create an interactive world of dance and science.

And celebrated puppetry company Little Angel Theatre visits on Thursday 18 with Handa’s Hen — a show for two to five year olds. It is based on the book by Eileen Browne and features 55 stunning puppets all created by hand for this brand new production.

Easter sees the return of Theatre Fest West, the annual celebration of theatre from across the south west region which is now in its fifth year.

Highlights include The Magic Beanstalk on March 30 — a re-telling of the classic story of Jack and the Giant set in present day Cornwall. Hand carved puppets, illusion and experiments create an adventure for everyone aged five and over who believes in magic.

On March 31 The Little Bookshop Boy comes to The Salberg. It tells the story of a boy who falls out of a book and, when the pages slam shut behind him, he gets lost and doesn’t know which story he belongs in.

And the incredible life and adventures of France’s first female aviator are told in Head in the Clouds: The Peregrinations of Marie Marvingt on April 1. The story is told using puppetry, live music and physical theatre and is ideal for those aged 8 and over.

The full Theatre Fest West programme will be announced in early 2016 and will include performances at Salisbury Playhouse, Salisbury Arts Centre, The Pound Corsham, Wiltshire Music Centre and Trowbridge Arts.
