UP Down Man follows on from Up Down Boy and explores family, friendship and life with Matty who is now an adult with Down's syndrome.

Up Down Man asks the question that faces every parent of an adult with a learning disability…What will happen if I'm not here?

The play is narrated by Mr. Fox, played by the fantastic Kieran Buckeridge, who also voices the thoughts of Matty.

It is full of love, heartache and dancing but it is also laugh-out-loud-funny and heart-warming.

The choreography is beautiful and brilliantly performed by Nathan Bessell who plays Matty. His expressive performance really tells his own story.

The play is another opportunity to showcase Buckeridge's excellent musical talent with a combination of live and pre-recorded music and sound.

The set was simplistic and provided the perfect backdrop to some impressive lighting which, combined with the well-arranged accompanying sound and music, had a very powerful effect adding to the emotion of the play.

The Salberg was the perfect setting for the play as the small space added to the intimacy of the performance.

In the end, it is Matty who teaches the family an important, heartfelt lesson. You'll certainly need a tissue to hand as I don't think there was a dry eye in the house, and yet, everyone left the play smiling! This play is certainly a must-see.

Up Down Man runs until March 12 at Salisbury Playhouse and tickets are available from the box office on 01722 320333 or salisburyplayhouse.com.
