A WILDLY fun night of theatre is set to sweep audiences off to the mystical land of Oz.

Le Navet Bete return to the Salisbury Arts Centre with the family classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – but not as audiences may have come to expect it.

Performer Al Dunn said: “We have still stuck to the basic narrative from the Frank Baum book and then taken our style of clown fooling and physical comedy and inserted quite a lot of digressions which are different to any other interpretation.

“Obviously, Dorothy is played by a man, and all those sorts of things which will make it a wild version of the original. But it still has all of those lovely pictures, and some of the music, and all the things people associate with the story are in the show but they are very much our own versions of them.”

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was originally co-produced as a Christmas show back in 2014 with the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth. Its roaring success has prompted its return to the stage.

“We had an amazing run and a brilliant response so for us it was a no-brainer that at some point when we had the time in our schedule we would rebuild the show as a touring show and get it out as people responded so well to it,” explains Al.

“It is wildly fun. It will be a really special night for theatre.”

Next year Le Navet Bete celebrate the 10th anniversary of their formation.

Performances take place today and tomorrow (May 5 and 6) at 8pm. For tickets call 01722 321744.
