SHORT AND CURLY, SALISBURY PLAYHOUSE

"WHAT an unlikely pair," my daughter commented, when I told her I was going to see Sandi Toksvig and Bonnie Langford in their two-women, one-woman show, Short and Curly, at the Salisbury Festival.

Unlikely indeed, but they've apparently been friends for years and have cleverly turned a friendship into a most successful double act.

Short and Curly was entertaining, enjoyable, professional and never, ever dull.

Comedian/radio presenter/writer Toksvig, who is rotund and presumably Short, had the audience in stitches with her jokes and stories.

One glorious gem concerning Barbara Cartland, a bowl of soup and after-dinner speeches had me clutching my sides. Svelte Langford (Curly) played the straight man, sang some great numbers from musicals, and memorably did the splits.

In between times, they sat on high stools and traded showbiz gossip The packed audience loved them, especially as they came up with jokes about Salisbury's very own Haunch of Venison and Debenham's ghost.

Come back next year, I say.
