LEARN all about Thai culture at Salisbury's Thai Festival on Sunday.

Organised by Desy Walsh, who hails from Bangkok but has lived in Salisbury for the past five years, the all-day festival is taking place in the grounds of Godolphin School, Laverstock Road, in the city.

Desy is very keen for Salisbury people to understand her culture better and has put together a delightful programme of events.

Starting at 10am with traditional offerings of food to the Buddhist monks from the Buddhavihara Temple, the festival will have its opening ceremony at 1pm with a traditional Thai drum parade.

And opening the festival will be the royal Thai ambassador and the mayor of Salisbury, Kevin Cardy.

Traditional Thai dancing, a demonstration of Muay Thai kick-boxing and live Thai music will entertain throughout the afternoon.

There will also be Thai cooking demonstrations and a costume and culture competition.

And there is no need to worry about food, as there will be plenty of Thai food stalls on hand selling traditional cuisine.

This family-day out comes to an end at 6pm and the entrance fee is only £1 for adults.

Proceeds from the festival are being divided between Salisbury District Hospital's Stars Appeal, Bishopdown Farm Pre-School and the Buddhavihara Temple, based in Burton on Trent.
