LA FOLIA will be celebrating 30 years of making music with a concert at St Martin’s Church in Salisbury on Saturday.

Originally known as Sarum Chamber Orchestra, La Folia has developed into a music production company that brings together instrumentalists, singers, actors, dancers, visual artists and writers to create new music, original projects and ground-breaking performances.

Directed by Howard Moody, founder of Sarum Chamber Orchestra and Artistic Director of La Folia, the anniversary concert starts at 7.30pm.

International oboist Nigel Shore returns to play Bach’s Concerto for oboe d’amore and strings, which he performed at the first Sarum Chamber Orchestra concert in 1986.

He will be joined by violinist Daphne Moody, who began the orchestra with Howard, to play Bach’s Concerto for oboe and violin.

The La Folia Strings will perform Loose Change, a contemporary piece written by La Folia violinist Jeff Moore, students and alumni from Exeter House Special School will share a selection of the profound words and music they have created in projects with La Folia over recent years, and the programme will end with Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings.

Howard Moody, La Folia’s artistic director, said: “The evolution of Sarum Chamber Orchestra to La Folia contains so many thrilling musical memories. Together we have shared a freedom to explore music in fresh ways, creating exciting opportunities for so many professional musicians and other artists to work together.

"This concert is a celebration of our music-making, all of which has been made possible thanks to the generous and unfailing support of local businesses, individuals, trusts and foundations. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.”
