THE Salisbury Chamber Chorus present a concert of seasonal music from around the globe this weekend.

Joy from the World is at St Martin's Church in Salisbury on Saturday and starts at 7.30pm.

It promises to be concert with a difference. Opera, such as excerpts from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Rossini’s Cenerentola (Cinderella), mixes with traditional carols and celebrated orchestral classics – Prokofiev’s Troika and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker – arranged for chorus by musical director Simon McEnery.

Simon says: "We’re offering audiences a grand tour of Advent and Christmas music, which will take in carols we all love plus favourites from Germany, France, Poland, Russia and beyond. But we’re also spicing the mix with moments from Berlioz’s epic L’Enfance du Christ, and some new, exciting arrangements for chorus of Christmas-themed orchestral gems."

Accompanied on the piano by Peter Toye, the concert is sponsored by Fordingbridge-based Hi-Fi+ magazine.

Tickets, £12, are available from Salisbury Playhouse at salisburyplayhouse.com or on the door.
