SARUM Voices return to get audiences into the festive spirit with its Christmas by Candelight concert.

The concert returns to its prime time slot on Saturday after being held on a Sunday evening for the past few years. This year it has an earlier start time of 6.30pm.

The concert takes place on Saturday (December 17) at St Martin's Church, Salisbury, and will be directed by Ben Lamb.

Sarum Voices has been part of the Salisbury music scene for more than 20 years, during which time it has forged strong links with St Martin’s church.

A spokesman for the group said: "The choir is delighted to be here once again for Christmas by Candlelight. With a capella music spanning from the 16th Century to 2016, and complementary readings delivered by Stephen Hattersley, the concert promises a different aspect on Christmas.

"In beautifully austere candlelight, the first half of the concert offers a thought-provoking look at Advent themes, breaking out into a more overtly jubilant celebration of Christmas after the interval."

Regular concert-goers will remember John Robinson, a former Bass Lay Vicar in the Cathedral Choir, performed the readings for many years at this event. There will be an opportunity to make a donation towards a bursary fund for Probationer Choristers set up in his memory at the concert.

Tickets, £12, are available online at ticketsource.co.uk or by calling 0333 666 3366 until Friday (December 16). Alternatively, they can be purchased at the door for £15.
