ENTERTAINMENT with a Victorian twist comes to Salisbury Playhouse in A Little of What You Fancy.

It has been created by Glyn Kerslake and Salisbury Playhouse's artistic director Gareth Machin.

Audiences have the chance to step back in time and experience the music, sketches, melodrama and magic from this era, with songs including The Boy I Love is Up in the Gallery, After The Ball is Over, I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside, Deck the Halls and Here We Come a Wassailing.

A Little of What You Fancy will be performed by an ensemble cast including Sophie Evans, Glyn Kerslake, Adrian Grove and Rebecca Trehearn, who are also appearing in the Playhouse's production of The Night Before Christmas.

Rebecca Trehearn says: "It is a musical revue essentially, there is something that will appeal to everybody. Glyn and our director Gareth have done a great job picking a varied selection of songs — there's some great slapstick in there, ballads and proper knees up numbers.

And as Adrian Grove explains there will be "twists" on well-known classics. "People are going to come along and go I know that song but the arrangements that they've done are slightly different. Some of the songs they won't expect the arrangements."

Audiences can also get involved with the show as Adrian explains.

"There is a lot of audience participation as well we will be encouraging everyone to sing a long. That is an important part of it."

As part of the show the audience are guests at a very special party.

"They will come along, it is a party where everyone is there to enjoy themselves," says Adrian. "We've got sketches, skits and scares, melodrama, magic and marvel, acts, artistes and aerial daring. There is something in it for everybody."

The show is being performed in the Salberg and Rebecca says audiences might find the characters "popping up in unexpected places".

Adrian did not want to give too much away but said there are also some "interesting, fun costumes" and a few "cheeky moments".

A Little of What You Fancy starts on Tuesday and runs until January 21. For tickets or more information call 01722 320333 or visit salisburyplayhouse.com.
