THE work of artist and printmaker Rena Gardiner is going on display at The Salisbury Museum.

Rena Gardiner is probably best remembered for her guidebooks to historic places, buildings and the countryside. She dedicated her life to the writing, illustration and production of her books, working from her cottage in the heart of Dorset.

Several of these books are about Salisbury Cathedral, but her artistic legacy also includes paintings, pastels and prints reflecting the coastline and countryside of south west England.

This new exhibition features works highlighting Salisbury Cathedral and the local area. There will be prints, watercolours and pastels – all of which reflect Rena’s passion for history, architecture and the countryside.

Her books were all handmade – no two are the same and the exhibition will include some of her travel diaries and lithographic books.

Exhibitions officer Joyce Paesen said: “Rena is a fascinating artist because she did everything herself. Her style is personal and individual – it was part of who she was. Once you see her work you instantly fall in love with it.”

Rena Gardiner: Artist and Printmaker opens next Saturday (January 14) and runs until May 13.
