Russell Kane, Right Man, Wrong Age tour

COMIC Russell Kane had the City Hall in stitches on Thursday as he talked about terrorists, Brexit and finally growing up since the birth of his daughter Mina.

Leaving his gothic look behind, the new dad was suited and booted as he pranced around the stage taking the audience through tales of his late development, trying to get a girlfriend, too many holidays in Ibiza, marrying a northerner and how fatherhood has changed him.

It should, in parts, have been a sad story, but Kane mocked himself and his strained relationship with his father to present a hilarious piece of stand-up comedy.

The hyperactive comedian focused on significant moments in his life, with a nostalgic look back at growing up in Essex as a camp teenager with a red-blooded father, who, after a rather embarrassing incident with some fake tan, tagged him with the nickname ‘Gaytan’.

Mocking a few audience members along the way, he was self-deprecating as he entertained us with amusing anecdotes about the differences between him and his father, the story of his wife’s pregnancy and childbirth before getting to the point where he realised he had finally grown up.

Kane was loveable and funny from start to finish.
