A CONCERT in support of The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal will take place on Sunday.

Babes ‘n’ Brass will combine opera with brass band music in a collaboration of the two genres, providing an unmissable remembrance concert.

The world famous Opera Babes will be the featured artists and will perform alongside the Woodfalls Band.

The Opera Babes, made up of Rebecca Knight and Karen England, have appeared at the Festival of Remembrance and Classical Brit Awards at the Royal Albert Hall. The pair were opera singers busking in Covent Garden in 2001 who are now in the global media spotlight.

The Woodfalls Band, led by conductor Dr Robert Childs has been named the West of England’s Champion Band 2017, and has just returned from another appearance at the Royal Albert Hall in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

The band will accompany the Opera Babes in a programme including The Cats Duet by Rossini, the Flower Duet by Delibes, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and The Drinking Song, from Verdi’s La Traviata.

The service of remembrance will include the Last Post and Reveille and end with a flag-waving favourite, Land of Hope and Glory.

This year, the concert is being recorded live for broadcast on Remembrance Sunday by Wiltshire. All proceeds from the concert will go the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, and the performance is being supported by Wessex Care.

It will take place at Salisbury City Hall on Sunday, November 5 from 3pm. Tickets are £14, or £12 for concessions, from the City Hall on 01722 434434.
