SALISBURY'S Studio Theatre won three awards at last week's Totton Festival of Drama after entering two plays written in support of the women's suffrage movement.

For the second year running, Rachel Fletcher was named Best Actress for her role as Kate in J M Barrie's The Twelve Pound Look with director Lesley Bates taking the trophy as Best Director.

Emma Way scooped the Best Supporting Player as musical hall comedienne Maudie Spark in How The Vote Was Won.

Both plays had been seen the previous week at the amdram company's Ashley Road theatre as part of its Here Come The Girls celebration of women's right to vote.

Totton Festival of Drama, now in its 40th year, attracted 14 entries from amateur drama companies across the south of England.

Studio Theatre's next production is Jane Eyre, which has been adapted from Charlotte Bronte's novel by Polly Teale, runs from May 21-27.
