SALISBURY Playhouse’s Stage 65 Youth Theatre is bringing Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet to The Salberg.

Set in a contemporary domestic home that has been “broken” and abandoned for some time, this version of Hamlet will use exciting projection design and digital technology to tell one of the greatest stories of loss, love and revenge.

The company of 27 young people aged 16 and over will perform Hamlet for four evening performances and a Thursday matinee.

Hamlet will be played by a girl in the production and girls will play many of the key roles including Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

The King of Denmark is dead. Hamlet’s uncle now sits on the throne, newly married to Hamlet’s mother.

Plunged into despair, Hamlet is driven on a violent quest of vengeance by the vision of her deceased father.

Stage 65 Youth Theatre director Dave Orme directs the production.

He said: “Shakespeare’s Hamlet is perhaps one of the greatest plays ever written and it is exciting to see it interpreted by young people. Although it is ultimately a play about loss, revenge and love it is also a powerful examination of youth and it is comfortable in this modern adaptation performed by an exciting cast of young people for whom it is profoundly relevant.”

Hamlet runs from Thursday, April 12 to Saturday 14.
