KEN Kiff’s paintings, evoking the blissfully radiant to the disturbingly grotesque, are now on display at the Young Gallery in Salisbury.
The exhibition features work from the artist who was elected to the Royal Academy in 1991 and became the second of the National Gallery’s invited ‘Associate Artists’.
His work is inspired by Chinese landscapists and influences from ‘modern’ artists including Picasso and Jackson Pollock.
Marc Chagall was Ken Kiff’s key inspiration, seeing a questing and playful spirit similar to his own, while Paul Klee shaped the delicacy and economy of Ken Kiff’s working methods.
While Kiff displays colour and cheeriness, there are also hints of menace in the background.
It runs until May 25.
The Young Gallery is located inside Salisbury Library.
