BLACK British history is explored in a new play inspired by a real-life walking group in the Peak District.

Black Men Walking is in The Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse from Wednesday (April 18) and runs until Saturday, April 21.

Thomas, Matthew and Richard walk. They walk on the first Saturday of every month. Walking and talking.

But this walk… Maybe they should have cancelled, but they needed the walk today.

Out in the Peaks they find themselves forced to walk backwards through two thousand years before they can more forwards.

Written by rapper Testament for Eclipse Theatre, Black Men Walking explores black British history using as inspiration the real-life walking group formed in Sheffield to walk the Peak District.

The production is directed by Dawn Walton, founder of Eclipse, who heard about the group and was also inspired by Septimius Severus, a black Roman Emperor.

Black Men Walking is the first national tour born out of Revolution Mix, a three-year movement that will spearhead the largest ever national delivery of black British productions in regional theatres.

Salisbury Playhouse is a partner in Revolution Mix.

Tickets are now on sale and can be booked by calling 01722 320333 or visiting salisburyplayhouse.com

From Thursday, April 19, new musical Moonfleet based on the novel by J Meade Falkner is heading to the theatre’s Main House and brings to life a forgotten world of shipwrecks, smugglers and heroism.
